In the past, we have seen a trend that manufactures export cars from the west and sell them in India. However, Maruti Suzuki has reversed this trend. Maruti have recently launched A-Star in collaboration with Suzuki Motors corporations. A-Star is one such car that would be manufactured in India at the Manesar plant. However, this would be sold across the continents like Europe, Middle East, Latin America, Asia, Australia, and Africa.
The car would be made in over 200 Variants and would be sold across 150 counties. In Europe the car would replace the present model of Alto would be sold as Suzuki Alto. Not only this, but Nissan plans to market the same car under the name Nissan Pixo in Middle East and African markets.
A-Star is a five door hatchback car which is powered by a 998 cc engine with 3 cylinder at its heart and 12 Valves. In India, the car would be sold by the name of Maruti Suzuki A-Star only. For the Indian market the car is priced between 3.47 lakh and 4.12 lakh. The company is very optimistic about A-Star and also plans to sell 5000 units per year in Indian market. The car has the potential to be a big success in India since it is equipped with all the modern features and has compact dimensions.
The car produces a power of 67 bhp at the rate of 6200rpm and a torque of 90 NM at the rate of 3500rpm. It incorporates features like Dual Airbags, ABS with EBD (brake assist), Head light levelling, High mounted stop lamp, Immobiliser, Air conditioner, Security system, Crimson illuminated instrument panel, Driver seat height adjuster, Integrated front headrests, Rear headrests, Coloured outside door handles, Body-coloured bumper, Coloured door mirror, Front fog lamps, Cabin light (3-position) and Wheel covers.
